| | There is history in all of usDecember 29, 2010 - James Whipple In an article I wrote the other day I said that I have lived in two worlds. The world without computers and the world with computers. I think that I have lived actually in other worlds in a way. If I did a story on my life and put into terms of history it would go a little like this; I was born during the third term of FDR and 11 months after the start of World War Two. In November the year I turned two FDR was elected to his fourth term. The election was held two day before my birthday. At the age of three World War Two came to an end. See where I’m going? All of our lives are full of history. When I was a kid I use to look at old people and wander what they must have felt like when they saw their first airplane or car. But I know the feeling now by just what I remember of first things in history in my life time. Seeing and the feeling of thrill that went through me at watching the first man, Neil Armstrong to step on the moon. The anger of seeing the long Vietnam War on TV every night. The older I have gotten the more I connect to the past. I don’t live in the past but I am a believer in the old saying "Those Who Forget History Are Doomed to Repeat It.” I can’t help but think we are reliving the past today, It is almost new years and we have been at war for the last ten years. Of course the biggest change in my personal life has been the computer age. Nearly everything I use to do manually can now be done on a computer. I remember the first time I connected to the “worldwide Net” I was almost frozen. I was afraid to look up the subject that I wanted information on. Over the years the computers and improved themselves and become even faster. Now we “Google” looking for information. Have you made a news years resolution. I read the other day that New Years Resolutions date back 4000 year to the Babylon people. When I was younger I use to make resolutions but I haven’t made any in the last few years other then praying to God for a health next year. So here we are the end of another year and the start of the next. My wish for you my friends or maybe a resolution. I hope and pray that each of you will have a Very Merry Happy and healthy New Year, and that that your lives may be long and wise and to quote an old Irish saying “May the wind be at your back. May the sun shine upon your face, and May you be in heaven a half hour before the devil finds out your dead.” Article CommentsNo comments posted for this article. Post a Comment | |
