Lizz King & Witchgrass tear it up

The scene: The Blue Moon Cafe in Shepherdstown, Thursday night, June 25th. Lizz King and Witchgrass played an exciting set before an unusually crowded Thursday night crowd of friends and assorted townies.

Opening up the evening, Lizz King brought an electric-mountain-cabaret dose of weird with a side of sultry songsmithery to the Blue Moon Cafe in a concert that mixed folk instrumentation with synthesized pop beats set against psychadelic video clips.

The headliner of the night was Shepherdstown singer/songstress Witchgrass, aka Meighan Young. She is normally accompanied by acoustic guitars as she sings sad tales of wasted youth, poverty, and small town heartbreak. But last Thursday, out of necessity (her guitar has gone missing), she played an electric set on a borrowed guitar. Plugged in and amplified, the music of Witchgrass takes on a gritty contemporary fusion of old-time country, rock, and blues.
