West Virginia State Auditor Glen B. Gainer, III presented the Jefferson County Board of Education with a quarterly Purchasing Card (P-Card) rebate check at the West Virginia Association of School Business Officials - 2012 Fall Conference at the Resort at Glade Springs in Daniels.
The amount of the P-Card rebate came to $126,174.52. Peggy Smith, assistant treasurer for Jefferson County Schools and Beth Marrone, chief school business official attended the conference.
Smith said, "The P-Card program has allowed us to generate a revenue source to the schools without really changing anything. In our county, it's been really helpful because we've had declining revenue and now we have earned over $126, 000 for our school system."
Gainer launched the West Virginia State Government Purchasing Card Program in 1996 for state-level agencies. The program created more accountability for purchases, sped up payments to vendors and has saved the state millions through cost avoidance while offering fraud protection.
Gainer developed the Local Government Purchasing Card Program in 2008 to allow local government entities such as county boards of education to join together and share in the benefits of their own P-Card system.
