Plans underway for benefit to aid local blacksmith
A community benefit is planned for Sunday, Dec. 30 to assist local blacksmith Dan Tokar who lost his shop in a recent fire. Tokar, who is often a familiar sight walking quietly from his home to his shop, will be greatly blessed by the coming together of local supporters to assist at this time.
The event, which will be held from 5 p.m. to midnight, calls for a $10 entrance fee. It will be held at the Shepherdstown Community Club with a happy hour from 5-6 p.m. and a potluck from 6-7:30 p.m. Light music will be provided during both of these portions of the evening.
Bands will then perform from 8:30 to midnight. Included in the lineup are Chelsea McBee, Tabasco Bustelo (Shannon Roberts/ Matt Lewis, Jacob Smith and Danny Tait); Gypsy Ramblers, Handsome Sonic Bongo Band and Sacred Groove.
Those wishing to bring a dish, please divide according to the following break down: Last names beginning with A-J please bring a main dish; K-T please bring a side dish; U-Z please bring a dessert. For those who have specialty dishes and wish to bring those, please feel free to deviate from the alphabetical assignment.
Cash and checks will be accepted as donations. Please make all checks out to Dan Tokar.
Volunteers who wish to help with set up and/or tear down would be welcome. Set up will begin at approximately 4 p.m. Please contact Lori Robertson at 540-336-4737 or Joanie Blanton at 304-268-2531.
For those unable to attend but who would like to make a financial contribution, please send them to Tokar at P.O. Box 1776, Shepherdstown, WV 25443.
Organizers of the event recognize with thanksgiving Judy Shepherd and the Board of the Shepherdstown Community Club for donating their space as well as the Board of the Train Station which was the initial venue that has already been outgrown.
