The Potomac Valley Audubon Society will offer a special winter program for children at its Yankauer Nature Preserve in Berkeley County on Saturday, Jan. 12. The event will be for children ages 6-9. Entitled "Winter Dens," it will help youngsters learn how animals stay warm in winter. It will last from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.
There is a $5 fee for each child. Enrollment will be strictly limited to ensure that all children receive personal attention, and pre-registration is required.
This event is part of a new program, called "Outdoor Explore!", that is intended to give youngsters a better understanding and appreciation of the natural world in a safe, supervised way. Its activities include hiking, exploration of different local habitats, plant and animal identification, and other natural science activities.
Jan Hummer, an experienced natural science educator, is leading each program session.
The program is being made possible by a grant from the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources.
