Are you ready for some baseball?

By Staff | May 24, 2013

For those out there who are not aware, Jefferson County now serves as the home for the Charles Town Cannons, a team in the Valley Baseball League. The team will play all home games at Jefferson High School’s Sager Field with the first scheduled for June 1.

Baseball is a favorite summer pastime and the decision of the Cannons to select Jefferson as their home offers all of us an opportunity to see some great ball, enjoy family time out and support these college players.

The Cannons, owned by Donald and Brett Fuller, need our community support in a variety of ways. They are currently attempting to secure some additional host families for the players who travel from around the country to play here. They also need volunteers for a variety of details associated with the league and they need us to support by coming out to the ball games.

See today’s Sports section for details on becoming a host family as well as details on the league and the team. Let’s all get together, head to Jefferson High and support these folks who believed in Jefferson County enough to select this location for a team.

They bring not only baseball for us to enjoy, but visitors to our community who will stay in our local hotels, eat at local restaurants and shop around the county. Shepherdstown has an array of delightful shops, eateries and tourist attractions of which these folks can take full advantage. But as we all know, it takes cooperation and supporting each other to make any venue successful. By attending their games, getting to know their coaches and players, we can encourage these summer visitors to in turn support the Shepherdstown community.

Their schedule for games runs throughout the summer. Visit their website at www.charlestowncannons.com for complete details and plan to head out to the ballgame!!
