Adventure packed weekend ahead

By Staff | Jun 14, 2013

With weather forecasters indicating a beautiful weekend, we encourage you to make plans now to travel out to at least two events taking place this weekend.

On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the annual Mountain Heritage Arts and Crafts Festival returns to Sam Michael’s Park. The festival, hosted by the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce, offers something for everyone. More than 200 crafters arrive and set up under the tents offering wares including jewelry, paintings, photography, woodwork and foodstuffs.

These unique offerings make wonderful gifts for others or for yourself! They come in all varieities, sizes and price ranges so that, again, everyone can find something!

Even if you just like to “window shop,” come out to the park and take a look. While you’re there, enjoy the children’s activities offered or sit and listen to some fabulous bluegrass music! Several bands are scheduled to be on stage throughout the weekend.

After finishing up at the festival, plan a day trip around Jefferson County on Saturday to visit the four farms taking part in this year’s annual Jefferson County Farm Day. See thoroughbred horses at O’Sullivan Farm, ride ponies at Dubble ‘R’ or learn about polo at Mountain View Polo. Then take some time to understand what goes on at the Appalachian Fruit Research Station.

Farm Day offers an opportunity to learn about the agricultural offerings within the county and is definitely something of which everyone should take advantage.

In addition to these two great events, we encourage all to get outdoors for whatever reason. Visit Morgan’s Grove Market for some delicious wares; travel to orchards around the area for pick-your-own berries and cherries or head down to the river for some quiet fishing or plain old relaxation.

We appreciate any and all information on upcoming events and activities around Shepherdstown and beyond. Please share with us and look in upcoming issues for exciting and adventurous activities to do close to home!
