SHEPHERDSTOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY

Sept. 20 is the last day children may bring in a completed summer reading log to receive a packet of thirteen prizes donated by generous local businesses.

The FOSL Book Club will meet Friday, Sept. 26 at 4 p.m. in the Library to discuss Wicked: the Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire.

Intermediate Bridge players are invited to join an informal group meeting every Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Trinity Episcopal Chapel. All are welcome and walk-ins are encouraged. For more information, contact 304-876-6244.

The Shepherdstown Museum, at the corner of German and Princess streets, is open on weekends from April through October, on July 4, and during Christmas in Shepherdstown. Public hours are: Saturdays, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sundays, 1 p.m.-4 p.m. Visits can be arranged at other times by calling 304-876-0910 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

THE NATHANIEL PROGRAM: 8 Weeks of Meditation & Spiritual Awareness Training will be offered on Tuesday evenings, Sept 30-Nov 18 from 7:30-9 p.m. at a Shepherdstown location to be announced closer to class time. Participants will gradually build to 20 minutes of breathing meditation daily. The class will also explore a wide range of spiritual and religious traditions in search of new perspectives and greater awareness. The course will be taught by Bill O'Brien, M.A., M.Div, spiritual development practitioner . Course fee is $120 for Adults, $80 for Students. Outdoor Yoga at Morgan's Grove Market: Start Saturdays off right! Join us each week for an outdoor yoga flow at Morgan's Grove Market. Crystal Bowl Concert, noon-12:40 p.m. Ann Craig performs an extraordinary "sound meditation" using eight quartz crystal bowls that fill the Harmony studio with an energetic yet peaceful vibration that soothes and aligns mind, body and soul. Sept. 19 & 20

The Federal Duck Stamp Art Contest is the oldest and most prestigious wildlife art competition in the United States. The winning design chosen at the competition will grace the 2015-2016 Migratory Bird Hunting and Conservation Stamp, or "Duck Stamp," the cornerstone of one of the world's most successful conservation programs that supports the acquisition of millions of acres of wetland habitat for the National Wildlife Refuge System. This event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 9 a.m. each day. Contest judging from 10 a.m. to noon. Held at National Conservation Training Center. 698 Conservation Way, Shepherdstown.

Sept. 20

The Jefferson County Parks and Recreation partners with Elegant Events to present the Sam Michael's Bridal Expo offering vendors in the wedding profession to help make the big day special. Tour the Columns at Sam Michaels as well as meet the local vendors. Door prizes will include one free use of the "Columns at Sam Michaels."

Sept. 23

Register to vote at the Shepherdstown Public Library, 10 a.m. 4 p.m.. You must register before 10/13 to vote in the Nov. election. Register as a new voter, or re-register because your name or address have changed, or to change your party affiliation. The League of Women Voters of Jefferson County is celebrating National Voter Registration Day by registering voters in Shepherdstown and at Shenandoah Community Health Center (10 a.m.-noon; 1-3 p.m.) in Martinsburg. Sept. 25

"Story Time" will begin today running from 7:30 9 p.m. at the St. Agnes Historic Chapel, Washington & Church Sts in Shepherdstown. This ongoing come-when-you-can event will happen every Thursday and will consist of experiencing the power of story to transform human life. Facilitators will be Bill and Linda O'Brien. This is a program of the Nathaniel Center for Spiritual Growth and not of St. Agnes Church. Any religion or no religion is welcome. This is a gathering for human beings who want to enlist their imagination for positive change.

William "Chip" Zimmer, Assistant Professor of Business Administration, Department of Business Administration and Family and Consumer Sciences, will hold a talk entitled: "The Market Feasibility of Bringing Minor League Baseball toWest Virginia's Eastern Panhandle" at 11 a.m. in the CLS Auditorium.

Oct. 2

The Jefferson County Commission will meet and converse with their constituents at John's Diner located at 846 Berryville Pike, Charles Town from 5-7 p.m. This event will feature an informal setting for citizens to interact with their elected officials. The goal of the evening is to provide the citizens the opportunity to speak one-on-one with County Commissioners. During this event, the Commissioners would like residents to share their views on important issues and topics concerning the County. The public is encouraged to attend. Oct. 11

The Sons of Italy Dan Di Mucci Lodge 2465 invite you to their 33rd Annual Dinner Dance to be held at the Hagerstown Elks,11063 Robinwood Dr., Hagerstown, Maryland. Oct. 11-12

There is a tree planting event scheduled at Sam Michael's Park. This event is through a Chesapeake Bay Communities grant. Each day will start at 9 a.m. We will be planting and fencing 176 small trees along Job Corps Road. We are looking for volunteers to help plant and fence trees. Those interested are asked to RSVP at balmertmarshall@frontier.com and bring work gloves, a shovel and needle nosed pliers.

Oct. 12

Fire, EMS and police are invited to a special service in honor and appreciation of your service and sacrifice to the community. Coffee and donuts will be served at 10 a.m. with the worship service at 11 a.m. Fellowship Bible Church, 160 Daniel Road, Shenandoah Junction. All are encouraged to attend.

Oct. 17-19

The Shepherdstown Community Club ("SCC") Annual Book Sale. Please recycle, and share your books with other members of their community. The SCC is now accepting books for the Sale. Please call Art Wineburg/Susan Brown at 304.876.2586 for pick-up of your books. Or you may drop your books off between the hours of 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., Oct. 13 -17, at the War Memorial Building, 102 E. German Street. The SCC is also seeking volunteers to help sort books during the week of Oct. 13-17. Volunteers are invited to a barbeque on Sept. 26, from 5:30 to 7:30 at the home of Art Wineburg and Susan Brown, 49 Island Green Farm Lane, Shepherdstown.
