SHEPHERDSTOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY

Jan. 12: A Spanish Immersion Story Time (for infants through second graders) will be held from 4 to 4:45 in the Shepherdstown Library's Children's Department at 100 E. German St.

Jan. 17 and 18: The Rumsey Radio Hour will be presented at 2 and 8 p.m. on Saturday the 17th and at 2 p.m. on Sunday the 18th. This FOSL (Friends of the Shepherdstown Library) fundraiser is an old-style radio program that will be performed live onstage at Shepherd's Marinoff Theater, 66 West Campus Dr. For tickets, visit the library at 100 E. Jan. 19: The library will be open from 10 to 7 and will offer a display of children's books about civil rights from Jan. 16 through 19 to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday.

Jan. 30: The Friends of the Shepherdstown Library (FOSL) Book Club will discuss We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves by Karen Joy Fowler at 4 p.m. in the library.

Intermediate Bridge players are invited to join an informal group meeting every Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Trinity Episcopal Chapel. All are welcome and walk-ins are encouraged. For more information, contact 304-876-6244.

The Shepherdstown Museum, at the corner of German and Princess streets, is open on weekends from April through October, on July 4, and during Christmas in Shepherdstown. Public hours are: Saturdays, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sundays, 1 p.m.-4 p.m. Visits can be arranged at other times by calling 304-876-0910 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Jan. 10

Dharma Yoga Level 3, noon-1:30 p.m. Harmony yoga instructor Gena Rockwell will offer donation-based Dharma Yoga (levels 2 and 3) classes at the Harmony, located at 211 E. New St., Shepherdstown, on Saturdays at noon. The next Saturday class is a Level 3, suitable for intermediate and advanced students, at least one year of yoga experience is required. No prior Dharma Yoga experience is necessary. The next Level 2 class will be on Jan. 17. For more information, please contact Gena at 304-582-4830.

Jan. 12

FREE Intro to Yoga, 7:15-8:30 p.m. Informal class focuses on basic poses, emphasis on alignment, breathing, relaxation, and meditation. Perfect for those curious about taking a yoga class at Harmony Healing Arts Center; also for anyone wanting a refresher about the basics. Questions welcomed! Location: Harmony, 211 E. New St., Shepherdstown. Offered again Feb. 9.

Jan. 14

All middle school students are invited to attend the 3rd Friday Middle School Dance at Ranson Civic Center from 6 to 10 p.m. Cost is $8 per student and students must present school ID or have parent to sign them in. DJ, games, door prizes and more promise to make this a fun evening!

Jan. 16

Crystal Bowl Concert, noon-12:40 p.m. Ann Craig performs an extraordinary "sound meditation" using eight quartz crystal bowls that fill the Harmony studio with an energetic yet peaceful vibration that soothes and aligns mind, body and soul. Participants can sit in chairs or lie on mats. Donations gratefully accepted. Location: Harmony, 211 E. New St., Shepherdstown.

Jan. 17

Squeeze the Bag! Annual Bagpipe Showcase Concert at 8 p.m. in Reynold's Hall. Four kinds of bagpipes will be featured: the Scottish smallpipe, the quieter cousin of the great highland pipes, the Irish uilleann (or Union) pipes, Northumbrian smallpipes and the Border pipes which are played in the border region between Scotland and England. Co-sponsored with the Upper Potomac Pipers Weekend. Classes available in many kinds of bellows blown bagpipes, flute, whistle and mixed-instruments. Jan. 17 & 18

After a too-long- interval Rumsey Radio Hour is returning to Shepherdstown with performances at the beautiful new Marinoff Theater at Shepherd University on Saturday,with a 2 p.m. matinee and an 8 p.m. evening performance where beer and wine will be available, and Sunday, at 2 p.m. only. Tickets are on sale now at the Shepherdstown Public Library or on line at www.foslwv.org/ and are only $20 for adults and $10 for children under 12. All proceeds will benefit the excellent programming at Shepherdstown Public Library. Seating is limited and these performances sell out so buy tickets now!

Jan. 31

Winter Seasonal Flow Workshop, 2-4 p.m. Vata balancing practice part 2-Staying vibrant in the midst of the Winter season. Workshop will include : Ayurvedic techniques to improve psychological health, agni (digestive fire) stimulating vinyasa yoga practice, nurturing restorative yoga and yoga nidra, and chanting and meditation techniques to improve mood and mental focus. Fellowship Bible Church will host their annual Wild Beast Feast at Ranson Civic Center beginning at 5:30 p.m. There is no cost to the public to attend. Door prize drawings include the giveaway of five guns. Steve Chapman will be the motivational speaker for the evening. Feb. 14

Come support the Animal Welfare Society of Jefferson County by enjoying a delicious buffet, silent and live auctions and raffles to benefit the Society's renovations of the existing cat rooms.
