Saying farewell and best of luck

June 26, 2015
Shepherdstown Chronicle

It is never easy to say goodbye to one who has done so much for the Chronicle and for the community. I find myself in that position this week as we wish Kelly Cambrel farewell and best wishes. Kelly has served on the staff of the Chronicle for over four years, bringing information to readers on town government, business and college information. She has offered feature stories on a myriad of topics and has interviewed countless individuals to ascertain the facts for all of her stories.

She has won numerous awards at the West Virginia Press Association for her stories and photographs. In short, she has been the face of the Chronicle.

As Kelly launches into a new beginning with the National Park Service, we must not regret losing her but wish her the best as she moves on to bigger and better things. The door opening for Kelly can potentially lead to a lifelong career and we certainly hope that is the case.

We will certainly miss her attention to detail and her constant presence around Shepherdstown. She has built many friendships and connections over the years. I appreciate, as I know Kelly does, the kind words that have been shared as she has made her plans known.

I know it will be a building block for the paper to maintain those. We ask for your assistance in that endeavor.

With that said, we look forward to welcoming aboard Vanessa McGuigan who will take on the editorial assistant position beginning July 6. Vanessa brings with her an outgoing personality and a desire to become acquainted and involved in the Shepherdstown community. A mother of four, she has worked as a home school teacher over the past several years. She and her husband, Brian, reside in Bakerton.

Please take a moment to share any words of farewell with Kelly as she fills out her last full day today. Cards or notes are welcome-we will gladly forward them to her. And remember to stop in and welcome Vanessa after July 6 and make her feel a welcome part of the Shepherdstown community.
