What have we become?

November 27, 2015
Shepherdstown Chronicle

A man stands in the Place de la Republique a square in Paris. He is blind folded. Attached to his jacket is a sign that reads, "I'm a Muslim and I'm told I'm a terrorist. I trust you. Do you trust me? If yes, hug me." People hug him.

According to Donald Trump, Americans who share this person's faith should have their houses of worship closed, should register with the government. What's next? Arm bands with the star and crescent?

Is this what we have become. I hope to God not.

Onlookers watch a raft approach the shore. The raft is packed with people, males and females, young and old and every age in between. When these desperate people reach land, they are helped, cared for, welcomed. Ben Carson calls these people "rabid dogs."

These are the people we are afraid of; the people we are shamefully abandoning. In heaven's name, why? America may be the land of the free, but certainly not the land of the brave. We've become a bunch of tough talking, gun toting wimps.
