Audubon camp scholarship deadline approaching

By Staff | Apr 3, 2016

The Potomac Valley Audubon Society is still accepting applications for its 2016 summer youth camp scholarship program. However, the deadline to apply is fast approaching: all applications must be post-marked by Wednesday, April 6.

Each year, the program helps send deserving area youngsters to summer camps that emphasize conservation and the environment.

Funds for the scholarships come from the proceeds of the society’s annual fall Bird Seed Sale and from donations and other community sources. Scholarships are available not only for the society’s own day camps in Berkeley and Jefferson counties but also for other camps in West Virginia.

The other camps include the Oglebay Institute camp near Wheeling; a Burgundy Center for Wildlife Studies camp at Cacapon Bridge; camps for middle and high school students at Spruce Knob; a junior conservations camp at Cedar Lakes in Ripley; and a senior conservation camp at Camp Caesar, in Webster County.

Any youngster within the society’s membership area (the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia and Washington County, Maryland) is eligible to apply.

For more information about all these camps and scholarship application forms go to the PVAS website at www.potomacaudubon.org or contact Kathryn Henry at 304-876-6681 or dhenry@myexcel.com
