Cougars 11-2 after easy wins over Eagles, Bulldogs

First, it was a 20-1 win over Hedgesville in a five-inning game ended by the mercy rule. And then it was a 10-0 win over Martinsburg, similarly ended after just five innings by the 10-run, mercy rule.

After those two victories over long-time rivals, Jefferson had an 11-2 overall record.

On Tuesday, April 19 at 4:30 p.m., the Cougars travel to face Washington High for the second time this season.

Against Hedgesville, Austin Cross went all five innings to get the pitching win. He allowed just one hit and one earned run while striking out seven and going walk-free.

Paul Witt was 3-for-3, scoring three runs and driving in four. Austin Bulman was also 3-for-3. Charlie Barnholt went 2-for-3 and scored two runs. Grant Reed was 1-for-2 and scored three times. Cole Walker was 2-for-3 and scored twice.

Against Martinsburg, pitcher Dylan Carroll went the first four innings, allowing just one hit to the Bulldogs while fanning two and walking only one. Cross fanned three in his one inning. He yielded a hit and walked two, but didn't allow a run.

Witt was 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Walker was also 2-for-2 and drove in three runs. Joseph Mills doubled in two runs.

The Cougars had eight hits in only four offensive turns.

Jefferson is 2-0 against Sectional rivals Washington and Musselman and also 2-0 in games against Hedgesville and Martinsburg.
