AWS appreciates Bark in Park friends

By Staff | Jun 20, 2016

I would like to take a moment to send a huge thank you from the Animal Welfare Society of Jefferson County to all who made our 10th annual Bark in the Park a success.

This annual event took place on June 4th at the Jefferson Memorial Park in Charles Town and raised over $5,500 for the animal shelter and its programs. We were blessed with comfortable temperatures, which resulted in many of the canines and their companions spending more time competing in contests and games, visiting vendors, watching canine demonstrations, enjoying food from Big Daddy’s BBQ, dog print paintings by Greensburg Bed and Biscuit and making dog friends.

Over 60 dogs visited and participated in the pledge obstacle course, especially enjoying the soggy paws pool. Pet contests brought smiles and laughter to all with thanks to guest judges, Sheriff Pete Dougherty and dog trainer, Elizabeth Hostler of Greensburg Bed and Biscuit. There are so many to thank for making the event a fun and successful day: James Welsh of Welsh Sound for donating the sound system; Big Daddy’s BBQ for providing a wonderful lunch; the St. Agnes Knights of Columbus, for the use of their tent; canine demonstrators, Kate Poulson and Elizabeth Hostler; Petco for providing treats and toys, the many businesses who supplied goodies for the goody bags, staff members Andrea Carroll and Susie Jennings for working the microchip clinic; and all of the vendors and volunteers, including AWS Board members who helped with the event.

A big thanks to all the sponsors for the event: German Shepherd Level- Hillside Veterinary Hospital, McKinney’s Auto Repair and Towing, and Sheehan Insurance; Labrador Level- JLB Business Solutions, Anne and Dennis Small, Greensburg Bed and Biscuit, Cornerstone Lawn Services, LLC, and Welsh Sound LLC; Terrier Level- J and K Precision Auto Care, Black Dog Coffee, TFG Appraisals, The Fisher Group, 3 Dog Farm, and Tri-State Pet Care.

Thanks to all the newspapers for promoting the event, Jefferson Memorial Park for a great venue and, lastly, a heartfelt thanks to all the canine participants and their best friends who came with them to enjoy a day of fun and festivities. Hope to see all of you and more next year on June 3rd for the eleventh annual Bark in the Park!!!

Sincerely,

Jane Tarner
