Shepherdstown Handmade Market: A unique celebration of creativity, craft and community

August 5, 2016
Shepherdstown Chronicle

It's going to be a beautiful weekend to be out and about in downtown Shepherdstown. While out and about enjoying everything the town has to offer, don't miss the Shepherdstown Community Club's 1st Weekend Handmade Market. The Handmade Market, now in it's fourth year, is similar to a pop-up arts and crafts boutique featuring the work of local and regional artists, artisans, crafters and designers. The Handmade Market will be open Saturday, Aug. 6 from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 7 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the War Memorial Building, 102 E. German Street. There is always free admission.

Everyone will find a variety of outstanding handmade goods and gifts in a delightfully curated community marketplace. The featured creative makers for this weekend's Handmade Market are: Plumley Lane Botanicals (all natural tinctures, salves, balms, baby products), Kem Gardens (recycled copper windchimes, suncatchers, wire art and dried flower art), Sweet Clay Creations (drool-worthy food and dessert-themed clay jewelry), The Mud Peddler Studio (whimsical and functional pottery), Happy Cat Glass (brilliant stained glass suncatchers and panels), Nature's Inspirations (bold statement jewelry made with fair-trade components), Raising Cane, Chairs by Gary (hand-caned and refurbished wood chairs), Becky Herdering (hand-sewn fabric totes, bags, wallets, wheelchair/walker organizers), The Dancing Herbalist (herbal creams, salves, teas, wellness workbooks), Percy Medina (intricately carved art gourds, vases, ornaments) and Creative Art and Soul (bohemian style copper electroformed jewelry).

Next month, the Handmade Market is proud to be included as a stop along the premier local WV Handmade by Heart Tour on Saturday, Sept. 3. The Market will also be open Sunday, Sept. 4. For more information, visit the Shepherdstown Community Club Handmade Market Facebook page at facebook.com/ SCCHandmadeMarket.

The Handmade Market series is sponsored by the Shepherdstown Community Club (SCC), a non-profit community organization of men and women founded in 1945 (formerly known as the Men's Club). Monies collected from sellers' space fees go towards the maintenance and operation of the historic War Memorial Building, an important civic and community hub in downtown Shepherdstown, and the 21-acre public access Morgan's Grove Park.
