Speak scheduled Sept. 13

September 2, 2016
Shepherdstown Chronicle

Anna & Elizabeth are historians, storytellers, visual artists and gifted, intuitive musicians who gather songs and stories from archives and visits with elders. They bring these songs to life in performance with sparse, atmospheric arrangements using guitar, banjo, fiddle and the uncanny blend of their voices in close harmony. The two revive the old scrolling picture show, dubbed "crankies"-intricate picture-scrolls illustrating the old songs they sing, which they create in tandem with papercuts, shadow puppets, prints and embroidered fabric.

Speak will take place on Tuesday Sept. 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the Community Club War Memorial Building. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Advance tickets can be purchased at Four Seasons Books, reserved at, or reserved by phoning 304-886-9481. Questions? . Speak will donate 10 percent of ticket sales from this concert to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy.
