After seeing Class AAA Sectional teams for the first time this season, and losing to Hedgesville and Spring Mills, it was two more games against the nearby competition for Jefferson.
The Cougars fell hard at Martinsburg, losing a 30-point, 66-36, verdict to the Bulldogs. The loss was Jefferson's third straight.
Martinsburg's pressure defense disrupted the Cougars at times and led to fast break layups for the Bulldogs. A comfortable halftime lead was quickly extended in the third period by the Bulldogs.
Martinsburg was undefeated against Class AAA Sectional opponents.
Last Friday in Shenandoah Junction, the Cougars dropped a 46-37 decision to state-ranked Musselman.
The Applemen held a 20-12 lead at halftime after outscoring the Cougars, 14-2, in the second quarter.
Jefferson guard Jordan Dragon had a solid-scoring third quarter and his points helped the Cougars even take a one-point lead at one time.
But then Musselman went on a 12-0 scoring spree in the fourth quarter to get the lead back, and go on to the nine-point, road win.
Dragon and Scooter Gaskins each had 10 points in the loss to the Applemen that left the Cougars with a 5-5 over-all record and a 0-4 mark against Sectional
Alex Tennant was right behind Dragon and Gaskins in the scoring column against Musselman.
The Cougars took a four-game losing streak into a game against Sectional and county rival Washington.
