SHEPHERDSTOWN - The Trinity Episcopal Church in Shepherdstown will be celebrating Holy Week April 9 through Easter Sunday - April 16. This year, we have added events on Good Friday, April 14, for the whole family. We would love for you and your family to join us ... and bring your friends! All are welcome to participate.
In preparation for Holy Week, our Youth Minister is leading the Episcopal Youth Community (Grades 6-12) in a Lenten Service Project. The Youths are collecting canned goods and other non-perishable foods between now and Good Friday, April 14. The foods will be used to build a labyrinth on the lawn at Trinity on Good Friday. Your children are invited to join in that effort...and, of course, donations can be brought to the Office Monday-Friday between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Also in preparation, our Sunday School children planted a garden which will hold the tomb of Jesus on Good Friday. The Treasure Kids Preschool will be watering the garden until then.
Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday, April 9, at which time we will celebrate Jesus' entry into Jerusalem during Passover. At the 10 a.m. service, we'll meet in the Fellowship Hall, remove palms from the Cross and walk in a procession to the Church. The procession will be led by Gabe, the loyal donkey of Rev. GT and Susie Schramm.
On Maundy Thursday, April 13, we will have our Annual Seder dinner in the Fellowship Hall. It is believed that Jesus was celebrating the Seder with his disciples the night before his crucifixion. Our Seder is a complete, instructed meal with traditional lamb, roasted potatoes, haroset and other foods, including wine. The cost is $14.00 for adults and $6.00 for children over six. Children are encouraged to attend. Please make your reservation by getting your check to the Office as soon as possible.
The Seder is followed at 8 p.m. with a celebration of the Holy Eucharist in the Church which ends with the Stripping of the Altar. Following the service, our parishioners will begin the Maundy Thursday-Good Friday Vigil - And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? Matthew 26:40.
Good Friday events include:
