SHEPHERDSTOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY

April 9 through April 16

To celebrate National Library Week, no fines will be charged for overdue items returned April 9 through 16. The Shepherdstown Library is also offering amnestyfor your prioroverdue fines, if you call us at (304) 876-2783 or visit us at 100 E. German Street) between April 10th and 15th.

April 17

The Shepherdstown Library will be open from 10 to 7 on 'Easter Monday,' April 17.

April 18-19

There are two dates in April when the Library's weekly programs will notbe held: on Tuesday, April 18 and Wednesday, April 19, the Library's Lap Babies, Time for Twos, and Three to Fives groups will notmeet.

April 19

Children ages four and older are invited to make a rain stick during a free story time about South American rainforests on Wednesday, April 19 from 11 a.m. to noon in the Shepherdstown Library's Children's Department. This program is part of the Potomac Valley Audubon Society's "Passport to Nature" series during spring break, April 17 through 21. April 26

The Board of the Shepherdstown Library will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, April 26, starting at 7 p.m. in the Library (100 E. German St.). This meeting is open to the public.

April 28

Homeschool students ages 8 through 14 are invited to get creative in a littleBits STEAM building maker lab in the Shepherdstown Library's Children's Department (100 E. German St.) at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 28. Registration is required: email splchild@martin.lib.wv.us or call (304) 876-2783.

The Shepherdstown Library's popular children's programs are offered in the Children's Department through May 24; no registration is required. "Lapbabies"for children birth through 18 months is Tuesdays from 10:15 to 11 a.m. "Time for Twos"meets from 11:15 to noon on Tuesdays. April 16th: Sunrise Service at 7a.m. at the outdoor chapel 408 Daniel Road, Shenandoah Junction, WV 25442

Regular services: 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m., and 11 a.m. Easter Sunday

All three of these services are identical.

President's Lecture Series featuring J. Robert Leslie at 6:30 p.m.to discuss theissue of eradicating human trafficking in our state and surrounding states. Mr. Leslie isthe Senior Deputy Attorney General in the Civil Rights Division of the WV Attorney General's office. More information forthcoming. There will be a reception following the lecture. This lecture is free and open to the public.

April 18

Speak Story Series presents Antonio Rocha of Maine at the inaugural concert of the 2017 season on April 18, 2017, at 7:30 PM. New location: Reynolds Hall, 109 North King Street, on the Shepherd University campus. Admission is $12 at the door. Memberships can be purchased for all nine concerts. April 22

The Charles Washington Symphony Orchestra is proud to present its spring concert entitled "A Musical Story: Beginning, Middle and End", which will celebrate the works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The weekend of 2 concerts will start on Saturday, April 22 at 4:30 at Shepherdstown's Town Run Brewing Company. Ensembles @ Ellsworth will give a Prelude Performance with Alec Bennington leading The Ellsworth Brass Choir.

Harpers Ferry Middle School will be the venue for the April 23 concert. It will begin at 3:00pm with a Prelude Performance by The Charles Washington Youth Orchestra, directed by Eli Thomas and sponsored by The Station at Shepherdstown. There is a suggested donation of $10 at the door for the two concerts.

April 24

President's Lecture Series featuring Delegate Riley Moore discussing"Security and Freedom: the Struggle for Balance"at 6:30p.m. in the Robert C. Byrd Center for Congressional History and Education. There will be a reception following the lecture. This lecture is free and open to the public.

April 26

The Potomac Valley Audubon Society, the City of Hagerstown, and the Washington County Bird Club will sponsor a bird walk at Hagerstown's new Kiwanis Park on Wednesday, April 26.

The walk will start at 8:00 a.m. and last one and a half hours. It will be led by local birding expert Sandy Sagalkin.

It will be free and open to everyone but pre-registration will be required. Register and get full information on the City of Hagerstown's website at www.hagerstownmd.org/birdwalks.

Glory Days Grill Dining for Dollars Fundraiser to Benefit Animal Welfare Society

The Animal Welfare Society of Jefferson County is proud to announce their participation in the Dining for Dollars fundraiser at Glory Days Grill in Ranson which began Jan.1 and continues through the end of the year. Every time you dine during the entire year at Glory Days Grill in Ranson, the restaurant will contribute 10 percent of your total food purchases to the Animal Welfare Society of Jefferson County.

Bring your neighbors, friends, and relatives, keep your copy of your guest check (not credit card receipt), and either mail it to: AWS P.O. Box 147, Charles Town, WV, 25414, place it in the collection box at Petco in Ranson, give to a board member, or drop it off at the shelter on Leetown Pike.

April 28

The Third Annual Shepherd International Guitar Festival will be held Friday, Apr.28 through Monday, May 1. Grammy Award winner, David Russell will be our festival headliner. The lineup of artists for the 2017 Festival is outstanding, featuring a variety of traditional pieces and new compositions presented by, and guitarist.
