Offense rallies Rams in win over Glenville

GLENVILLE - Trailing by 13 points with just over four minutes remaining in the third quarter, Shepherd rallied with the game's last three touchdowns to overhaul the Pioneers in winning 42-34 in a conference game played at Glenville.

Down 34-21, the Rams got a score from Patrick Griffin just before the third period ended.

Still trailing by six points, the Rams took a 35-34 lead with 13:13 left to play when Jabre Lolley bolted in from 17 yards out.

Shepherd’s Ryan Feiss (3) scored two touchdowns in the comeback win over the Glenville States Pioneers.

Just moments later, Shepherd scored again when Connor Jessop hooked up with freshman Duron Norris on a 42-yard scoring pass that lifted the hard-pressed Rams into a 42-34 lead.

Neither team scored in the last 12:27 of action.

Playing just its second game, Shepherd is now 2-0 and has a home game this Saturday against West Virginia State. Glenville went to 0-3 on the season.

The Rams had 80 offensive plays and Glenville had 62. Shepherd's eye-opening total offense number was 541 yards and the Pioneers carved out 356 yards against the Ram defense.

Jessop threw 42 times, completing 28 passes and notching three touchdowns. Jessop was intercepted twice. Ryan Feiss set a school record for single game receptions with 16. All those catches totaled 181 yards and Feiss caught scoring throws from Jessop of 16 and three yards.

Lolley ran 22 times for 149 yards and two scores.

The game was even at 21-21 at halftime.

Glenville freshman quarterback Jaylen McNair went 20-for-31 through the air and suffered an interception at the hands of Tre Anderson. McNair totaled 298 passing yards and had four touchdowns in the first start of his career.

Shepherd sacked McNair four times and limited the Pioneers to only 58 rushing yards on 31 tries.

The Rams were penalized 11 times for 108 yards. Shepherd amassed 28 first downs.

This week's opponent, West Virginia State, has a 1-2 record having beaten Charleston 51-28, and absorbed losses to Virginia-Wise 34-24, and Notre Dame 47-35.

Yellow Jacket quarterback Matt Kinnick was 38-for-52 with an interception in last week's loss to Notre Dame. Quinton Gray had 12 receptions for 123 yards and a touchdown. Kinnick threw for 372 yards against Notre Dame.

The Shepherd vs. West Virginia State game is being billed as Family Weekend/Athletic Hall of Fame day and starts at noon.

After two games, Shepherd is now the only unbeaten team in the Mountain East Conference. Most of the league's 11 teams have played three games.
