Emma (Starliper) Mae Locke left this life on Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017 at Berkeley Medical Center leaving her husband, James Henry Locke whom she married on March 27, 1959 and son, James Lester of Shepherdstown.

She was the daughter of Clifford C. and Mabel (Watson) Starliper Born in Berkeley County on March 24, 1936.

She had a brother, C. Eugene Starliper who preceded her. Survived by her sister, Nancy Swartz, of Shepherdstown.

Living in Leetown for a number of years she remained a member of the Leetown United Methodist Church where she was a Choir Member, taught children's Sunday Class earlier and later was a trustee.

She was instrumental in forming the first Red Cross Blood Drive at her church, having helped with drives in Charles Town.

She collected old English Ironstone China and Antiques. She enjoyed flower gardening acquiring, that from her Mother. She also collected apple items from pot holders to jewelry to cook books and china and baskets. She was an avid reader and did word puzzles.

She graduated from Shepherdstown High School with the class of 1954. She kept in touch with those classmates throughout the years. Having received a scholarship to Shepherd where she received her degree in teaching with the class of 1958.

After graduating from Shepherd she was hired to teach at her alma mater, Shepherdstown Elementary School in the third grade with her own third grade teacher, Katherine Rexrode.

She taught at Shepherdstown Elementary School for 31 years before retiring in 1989.

She was a member a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, International Retired School Employees, Emeritus Club at Shepherd. She was a nominee for Teacher of the Year 1987. She was active in the Shepherdstown Fire Department after retiring and was presented an Honorary Membership Award. "She loved her fire department".

She also loved her 3rd graders. Most of all she was proud of her family, husband, James and son, Jimmy. They were her pride possessions.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 3, 2017 at the Pleasant View Memory Gardens Martinsburg with Pastor John Lewis assisted by Lisa Franzen officiating.

Interment to follow in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg.

Friends will be received 10 to 11 a.m. Friday Graveside at the Cemetery
