SHEPHERDSTOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY

Saturday: All ages are invited to a "Milk and Cookies" story time program (with songs and an activity) at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9 in the Shepherdstown Library's Children's Department (100 E. German St.).

The Library's popular children's programs continue through Dec. 6; no registration is required. "Lapbabies" for children birth through 18 months will be on Tuesday, Dec. 5 from 10:15 to 11 a.m. "Time for Twos" (19 months to 3 years) will meet from 11:15 a.m. to noon on Tuesday. The "Three to Five Year Olds" program is on Wednesday, Dec. 6 from 11:15 a.m. to noon. These three programs will resume on Jan. 9 and 10.

Holiday hours: The Shepherdstown Library will be open Tuesday, Dec. 26 through Saturday, Dec. 30 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. We will be offering amnesty for your prior overdue fines, if you call or visit while the Library is open. Plus no fines will be charged for overdue items returned (in person or through the book drop) from December 24 through January 1. Regular hours will resume on Tuesday, January 2. Questions? The FOSL Book Club will not meet in the Shepherdstown Library in December; their next meeting will be on Jan. 26.

Children ages four and older are encouraged to attend a fun "All about Birds" program at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 2 in the Shepherdstown Library's Children's Department (100 E. German St.).Naturalists from the Potomac Valley Audubon Society (PVAS) will help kids with a bird feeder craft and then lead a bird walk around Shepherdstown until 12:30 p.m. Each child must be accompanied by a parent or other adult. Mon., Jan. 15: To celebrate the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. the Shepherdstown Library will be open 10 to 7 on Monday, January 15.

Support the Shepherdstown Library! The Rumsey Radio Hour (music, satire, tall tales, and much more, including Chinese musicians who have performed at the Kennedy Center) will be presented at Shepherd University's Marinoff Theater (62 West Campus Drive) at 2 and 8 p.m. on Saturday, January 20 and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 21. After Saturday's 8 p.m. show, a talk back with the cast is scheduled. Tickets for these three live shows may be purchased at the Library (100 E. German St., (304) 876-2783) or at www.foslwv.org/, and are offered at a discount if bought before January 13. (Snow dates are Jan. 27 and 28.)

Glory Days Grill Dining for Dollars Fundraiser to Benefit Animal Welfare Society: The Animal Welfare Society of Jefferson County is proud to announce their participation in the Dining for Dollars fundraiser at Glory Days Grill in Ranson which began Jan.1 and continues through the end of the year.

Keep your copy of your guest check (not credit card receipt), and either mail it to: AWS P.O. Box 147, Charles Town, WV, 25414 or place it in the collection box at Petco.

The Animal Welfare Society of Jefferson County is participating in Applebee's Dining to Donate program.

Dine at Applebee's in Charles Town the first Thursday of each month from 11 a.m. until closing and Applebee's will donate 20 percent of your bill to the Animal Welfare Society. Bring in the flyer printed from the AWS website, www.awsjc.org, or mention Animal Welfare Society to your server. Enjoy an evening of delicious food and help the shelter dogs and cats that are waiting for new homes.

The Trinity Thrift Shop is open on Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Stop by for some cool finds - clothing for all, jewelry, books, movies, toys, kitchen and other house wares, prints, knick knacks, and holiday items! The Shop accept accepts donations of clothing, books, jewelry, and many other items. It also collects used eye glasses on behalf of the Lion's Club.

The Thrift Shop cannot accept furniture, other large items and electronics due to limited space. Contributions may be delivered to the screened-in back porch at any time.

Tax receipts are available during business hours.

Sarah's Tuesday Group - Calling all knitters, quilters, rugmakers and more!

We meet in the Trinity Episcopal Church Fellowship Hall, corner of German and Church streets, every Tuesday afternoon from 1 to 4 p.m. Work on your own projects while socializing with other crafters.

The Shepherdstown Mysteries Walk continues throughout the fall every Friday and Saturday evening.

The 90-minute walk starts at dusk and showcases at least 20 stories and legends of the town, retold by the researcher, Dana Mitchell.

Cost is $12 per person and comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Reservations for regular or private Tours are required. For reservations and information call 240-593-2317.

This time of the year St. Agnes KOC solicit donations for our Coats for Kids Campaign.

We are asking the parish and community to donate whatever they can towards the purchase of these coats. A case contains 12 winter coats which cost $220 per case. All coats purchased will be distributed locally to elementary schools in the Jefferson County area. Your donation is tax deductible.

Cash or check in any denomination (made out to St. Agnes KOC can be mailed to St. Agnes or Bob Rizzo (Box 1143, Shepherdstown, WV 25443).

Christ Reformed United Church of Christ is inaugurating a new speaker series called "First Tuesdays at CRUCC."

The series will begin Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m. with Julia McDonald Yuhasz, Community Educator from the Hospice of the Panhandle will speak on Last Wishes, Medical Powers of Attorneys and Final Plans.

There will be a speaker the first Tuesday of every month. Coffee, tea and refreshments will be provided. These are free events.
